Today's topic, food. I got lots of thoughts about food. Kinds, flavors, cooking methods, everything!! Everywhere you go there is a different kind of food item available. One thing I like to do when on vacation is discover different kind of flavors right at home or go around wherever I can to taste different things.
Oman. Just in our lovely country we have so many varieties of flavors, spices, methods, and preferences for food. I would divide Oman, food in view, in two parts. Seafood and Meat. By seafood its obvious I mean everything coming out of the sea like fish, lobsters, crabs, prawns, squids, octopus, etc. By meat, of course lamb, beef, mutton, chicken, etc. There are seafood lovers as well as meat lovers. It is surprising to see though that there are very less vegetarians! Most of veggies are Indian people. its shocking to have not met even one Omani vegetarian in my entire 22 years of life!
Coming back to meat and seafood, there is a competition between both lovers. But there is one more class, my class. we eat and love all kinds of food let it be sea or meat, food is food for me or *us :D. Just one condition though, food should be Halal by Islamic standards or else be rejected by us. I call myself all food lover, but still strangely enough I hate eggplant. I just can't see myself eating an eggplant, never. Aside haram items and eggplant I could eat almost anything. I can't eat shellfish (prawns, Crab, lobsters, etc.) because of allergies, I love to eat shellfish though. Sometimes even though knowing the consequences I have enjoyed my meals. Consequences you ask? I get feeling like my eyes are on fire and after a while they become as big as lemons, very funny to see but I suffer!
One of my hobby is to taste different kinds of food. I have tasted and enjoyed so many cuisines, German, Italian, English (omelettes!), Pakistani & Indian (all over Oman), from Bilad (villages/hometowns of Oman), Mexican, Spanish (mmm yummy Tapas and Paella!!), Greek, believe it or not but you have to believe Russian, etc. A lot of different flavors have reached the taste buds of my tongue, but over all I would not give up Majboos with FilFIl and Shu'a, the best there is!
